Dr. Edward Stone was a renowned physicist and space scientist who laid the groundwork for planetary science and space exploration. He served as Voyager project scientist for over 50 years and oversaw more than a dozen missions and instruments during his tenure as the director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
The Edward Stone Voyager Exploration Trail traces the twin spacecrafts’ trajectories, beginning at the heart of JPL’s campus with the launch of Voyager 1 and 2. Along the path, memorial plaques mark key milestones of the Voyager mission and Dr. Stone’s personal achievements, scaled to one another in relation to time and distance. This trail invites visitors to walk in Ed’s footsteps and to reflect on the profound legacy of both the mission and its visionary leader.
